We support postdoctoral researchers to pursue creative research projects with the potential to generate insights on neurodegeneration and clues for maintaining cognitive health as we age.
"The Brain Resilience Postdoctoral Scholar Award has created an enriching community of scholars that have positively impacted my research and encouraged my interest in studying the aging brain.”

Our Model
Program Tracks
Brain Resilience Postdoctoral Scholar Award
The Brain Resilience Postdoctoral Scholars award of the Knight Initiative for Brain Resilience supports trainees generating paradigm-shifting insights on the mechanisms of neurodegeneration and how to maintain brain resilience into old age.
Interdisciplinary Postdoctoral Scholar Award
The Wu Tsai Neurosciences Institute’s Interdisciplinary Scholars Award supports interdisciplinary scientists engaged in cutting-edge research across the neurosciences.
Funding
This program offers two years of fellowship funding, which includes parental leave. Postdocs also receive $5,000 annually in discretionary research funds to support their projects.
Mentorship
Scholars meet monthly with their cohort and program faculty mentors Miriam Goodman and Liqun Luo to share ideas, address research challenges, and collaborate on techniques. These meetings encourage knowledge exchange across disciplines and help scholars develop communication skills for both scientific and public audiences.
Community
Brain Resilience Scholars attend Knight Initiative events and seminars. They are stewarded by Knight Initiative Associate Director Natasha Hussain and faculty mentor Elizabeth Mormino to learn from one another and build a community around neurodegeneration and brain resilience.
Diversity
Both program tracks foster diversity by bringing together postdocs from various backgrounds, experiences, and research areas. We strongly encourage applications from women and individuals underrepresented in neuroscience.
