A new framework for blood biomarker staging of aging and Alzheimer's disease

The Neurodegenerative Cell Protein Atlas Initiative aims to create a detailed subcellular atlas of organelles in human iPSC-derived neuron and glia cell types, providing a powerful tool to study early cellular changes in neurodegenerative diseases. This initiative focuses on understanding how mutations associated with Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease/Lewy Body dementia, frontotemporal dementia, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis alter neuronal cell biology in disease models. By identifying shared and unique pathways across these conditions, the initiative aims to uncover mechanisms of neurodegeneration and resilience. This work could reveal therapeutic targets to slow or reverse disease progression in its earliest stages.
