Shagayeg's scientific journey blends neuroscience with a focus on the interplay between genetics and epigenetics in brain health and disease. Her interest in drug development expands her understanding of the tools available to study and treat conditions like Alzheimer’s disease. She is particularly focused on using small molecules to increase the expression of TREM2, a key receptor in Alzheimer’s pathology, which shows promise as a treatment target. Outside the lab, Shagayeg integrates her research with the performing arts as an actor and theater producer. She also enjoys dancing and gardening, which bring her joy and inspiration.
